Warner Bros. wanted to cut down on the significant expense of producing and distributing DVDs to employees overseas and across the US. DVDs are not only costly to create, but have storage restrictions limiting how much video content can be featured per disc. Timeframes and lack of control over the distribution of DVDs, as well as reliance on slow delivery services, were holding up projects across the Warner Bros. company.
The project also needed to overcome the lack of control over unauthorized distribution – too much sensitive and confidential video content was being shared outside of Warner Bros. And, finally, the company executives wanted to streamline feedback from employees in regard to the video content once distributed.
The Process
Makeen’s developers essentially became part of The Client’s workforce for the duration of the project. As key technical advisors, Makeen’s 10-person team was entrusted to make all related decisions and granted full support to implement our solution.
Makeen’s key priorities were to develop a highly-secure product with encryption at a streaming level based on Digital Rights Management (DRM) – a new standard in the field of encrypted content wall streaming which was still in its infancy. The platform needed to allow for streaming and interactivity across multiple formats and devices. There were also many components to the product itself, with complex functionality that would not only digitize the existing process but accelerate it to a level that would significantly transform The Client’s. operations.
Makeen’s internal backend framework – developed by our team – was also utilized in two ways:
1. As the ‘middleman’ for all content streaming to WB from Microsoft Azure, managing access to our customer’s content. This was a significant undertaking given the plethora of clients, including Apple TV, and the amount of differences between each application. 2. To support the node.js Express web application framework, critical in ensuring rapid development flow.
The entire system is programmed in Javascript: Full Stack; React Native for mobile clients and Apple TV; and Electron for Windows and Mac desktops. Filtering options allow The Client’s staff to watch content grouped by genre and collection. The Netflux platform provides a way to write and draw comments while viewing a video, speeding up the feedback process.
The Results
Makeen Technologies was able to deliver a MVP (Minimum Viable Product) to Warner Bros. in just three months. Netflux digitizes a critical internal process for viewing and reviewing video content at Warner Bros. The feedback we received was 100% positive, and as a result Makeen is supporting Warner Bros. with additional technical projects. Add sentences here about Netflux KPIs
